The Belum Rainforest Summit (BRainS) is back for its second edition from 18-21 September 2018 and will be hosted at the same venue at the Belum Rainforest Resort, Pulau Banding, Gerik, Perak, Malaysia. This time the Summit will be co-organised by the Perak State Government, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) and World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia).
Building on the success of the 2016 edition, the Summit is expected to welcome over 100 attendees representing government officials, research scientists, conservationists, NGOs, community leaders and policy makers. A dynamic mix of discussion panels, insight presentations and enhanced networking opportunities will build knowledge and foster collaboration on how best to conserve our tropical rainforest biodiversity with a special reference to the Belum-Temengor Rainforest Complex (BTRC) in Perak, Malaysia.
The main theme for BRainS 2018 is “FOREST, BIODIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY: A BALANCED APPROACH FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”. The Summit will focus on the following 5 topics:
1. Biodiversity and ecosystem services
2. Social forestry and community
3. Wildlife conservation
4. Stakeholder participation and governance
5. Forest, REDD+ and Climate Change
