The Biorisk Management Curriculum Roadshow recently concluded its successful 3-day program from 19 to 21 February 2023, hosted at University of Malaysia, Sarawak (UNIMAS). Aimed at cultivating awareness and understanding of the Biorisk Management principles, the roadshow drew in 54 eager participants from various institutions – Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Management and Science University (MSU), SEGI College, Swinburne University of Technology, UiTM Sarawak, and Sarawak Biodiversity Centre.
Across the roadshow’s duration, attendees engaged in a structured learning journey, emphasizing core components according to the 12 modules with speakers and experts from the field. The first day emphasized the core components of the modules, such as biosafety and biosecurity, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies. Moving forward, the curriculum seamlessly transitioned into essential practices, including good laboratory work practices, proper utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE), and effective biological waste management. Day two of the program further enriched participants’s understanding with modules covering the transportation of biological materials, incident and emergency response protocols, and a reflective session on performance.
Day 3 focused in a mentorship program designed to empower participants to implement Biorisk Management (BRM) curriculum in their workplaces. Ultimately, the roadshow catalyzed future endeavors in Biorisk Management, providing a solid platform for continued learning and development. With the newfound insights and skills, participants are primed to spearhead implementing robust Biorisk Management programs, ensuring safer and more efficient laboratory environments across diverse research landscapes.
