He is an Associate Professor in Microbiology specializing in Bacteriology and Molecular
Biology. He is also an Associate Researcher at Halal Products Research Institute, Universiti Putra
Malaysia, and had previously served as the head for Laboratory of Halal Science Research, and Director of the
Institute. His research is mainly on the molecular epidemiology and population genetics of medically important
bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. He is also exploring the molecular
approaches in microbial typing and halal (meat spp.) authentication in food. He is also interested in the educational
development of Biomedical Science and Laboratory Management. He is currently a member of the
Malaysian Society for Microbiology and a registered Professional Technologist (Biotechnology) at Malaysian Board of Technologists.
