Short Bio
I obtained my PhD in Molecular Virology from University of St. Andrews, United Kingdom in 2007. Currently, I am an Associate Professor at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), University Malaysia Kelantan (UMK). Prior to joining FPV, UMK, I was employed as a Research Officer at Veterinary Research Institute (VRI), Ipoh, Malaysia for almost 18 years working on mammalian and avian viruses including Nipah and H5N1 and also in the development of poultry viral vaccines such as Newcastle Disease virus, Infectious bronchitis virus and Duck viral enteritis virus. Then in 2009, I have joined the Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), Universiti Sains Malaysia for 5 years working on the development of rapid isothermal DNA test such as loop amplification method (LAMP) for use in low-resource settings and molecular epidemiology of HIV and Salmonella Typhi in Kelantan, Malaysia and has successfully published 8 papers related to LAMP. I was also involved in in-vitro expression study of the viruses using bacteria and mammalian expression systems. My current research interest at University Malaysia, Kelantan is on the development of rapid and simple DNA tests and molecular epidemiology study of animal diseases, isolation of coronaviruses from wildlife, antiviral and anticancer effect of natural products.
