Short Bio
Isabel Fong Lim is a Senior Lecturer in the Dept. of Paraclinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UNIMAS. Isabel received her B. Tech (Biotech., Hons.) and M.Sc. from the University of Auckland (NZ) before joining Genesis R&D Limited (NZ) as a researcher for 5 years developing therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and immunologic diseases. She joined UNIMAS in 2005 as a Lecturer in the Dept. of Paraclinical Sciences. In 2008, she was awarded a Doctorate Training Award and undertook her PhD research with Andreas Gescher and Stewart Sale (Uni. of Leicester, UK) on the role of pentamethoxyflavone as chemopreventive agent against colorectal cancer through gene expression modulation in vitro and in vivo. After gaining her PhD., she returned to UNIMAS to teach undergraduate Medical, Nursing and postgraduate Masters of Public Health programmes. In UNIMAS, her research focuses on discovery of phytochemicals as antidiabetic (SDG@Borneo), antimicrobial (SBC, SpTDG, Kursi TZ), anti-cancer therapeutics (FRGS-RICE, SDG@Borneo, IMPACT, SDRC, TRGS) and wound healing properties of local fishes’ extracts (SpTDG) with the vision of conferring pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and added-value to local flora and fauna. She also offers her molecular genetics expertise in the field of Cardiology (Sarawak Heart Centre) to develop a prognostic tool to assess tissue healing in heart patients (RAGS). Her collaboration in Global Challenges Research Fund with Uni. of Kent had materialised networks within ASEAN and awarded grants, namely tripartite collaboration (Taylor’s U-UNIMAS-Uni. of Kent), GCRF17, GCRF19 and EPSCR. Her other collaboration networks include Uni. of Tripoli(Libya), UiTM(Msia), IMR(Msia), Swinburne Uni. of Tech.(Msia), and SEGi College(Msia). Isabel is an associate partner in GCRF Biopharma (Kent) and a member of British Assoc. of Cancer Research, European Assoc. of Cancer Research, M’sian Natural Products Society, and M’sian Society of Microbiology.
